The Beginning

This Revolution started on 8th of June, 2011, A day when few students of Brightlands School, Dehradun..Which is also one of the finest schools in Asia, stood and asked themselves if they were actually responsible citizens or not. And they actually did something that must have done a lot more earlier.

MAD( Making a Difference), is a youth brigade (currently functional only in Dehradun city, India- but looking to expand nationally). They aim to keep their city green and clean- and actively conduct regular awareness drives and activities in furtherance of their goals. They have gone on many clean-up drives, distributed useful items and home-made food among the poor, for making a difference. They were a young group started with few champs but is now an army getting build up everyday.

It was a dark sunny day
With crowds on the road,
With trees leaning down
To unleash the code

“No eating, Drinking or littering”
Was written all around
What all we could see
Was just a crying ground

Lots were left behind,
And lots were to come.
The only challenge was,
To prevent the rising sum

We forgot the code,
And left every road
Were no trees left
And a silent cloud mode.

It seems to be the end.
Though nobody’s concerned,
Nothing left that we could lend,
Our EARTH is now stubborn.

Garbage Disposal Report

A letter that was written to “MUKHYA NAGAR NIGAM ADHIKARI” bY “MADians on April 3, 2013….

The Mukhya Nagar Adhikari,
Nagar Nigam,

Respected Sir,

This is with reference to Making a Difference-By being the Difference (MAD)’s report on the improper garbage disposal system in the city. In January this year, a delegation of Making a Difference volunteers met the Honorable Chief Minister Shri. Bahuguna to submit to him our documented research work on the fast falling hygine levels in the city. This 76 page report which contained all relevant details about over 16 places in DehraDun city which have become garbage hotspots also contained a series of valuable solutions as recommendations for the Government as well as the Municipality to tackle the problems identified and enumerated.

The report was forwarded by the Honorable Chief Minister to the Urban Development Department wide letter VIP(M)/291/XXX-V-1/2013(i) requesting them to evaluate our findings. The same report was then forwarded to you wide letter 386/IV(2)Sh.Vi.-13-02(vividh)/07 by the Department, requesting you to act on the report’s submissions..

We hope that you shall consider the findings of our report and act on the 16 garbage hotspots specified by us. We wish to open a channel of communication with you on the proposed action so that together, the youngsters and the authorities pave the way for a major environment-friendly success story. It is noteworthy that this report had been brought to your notice in late December of 2011, when the then CM Shri. Khanduri had forwarded our report to you requesting you to discuss our findings with us. We were dejected as we received no communication from your side in these 15 months.

Therefore, today we write to you requesting your kind attention on the report so that our efforts reach their logical conclusion by decisive action. I am confident that you shall consider our request with sensitivity.

PS: All the three letters referred above have been attached for your reference

Abhijay Negi,
